I'm Making a Night Time Promise
But not the naughty kind of night time promises you're thinking...
A SOLEMN PROMISE - BY LEYLA
My whole life certain things have worked for me, and worked well, they are constants in my life. If I try to work around these constants, I fail. The constants have revolved around my personal life and professional life (and school life, prior to work). These promises relate to me, (like everything else in this blog), and what I need to do in order to feel comfortable living the life I'm living.
Think of this as my personal Oprah episode.
I Promise You This (or these):
To be less filtered. I will use profanity when / if necessary.
I once made a pact (with myself) to stop using profanity online because I didn't want people to draw any conclusions about me, not in a negative way. I realize that people can still draw negative conclusions, with or without profanity, but I didn't want a cuss word to be the reason. I figured, just keep it clean. I've since changed my stance, but only slightly. When telling a story online, I don't want to be a total potty mouth, but I want to be true to who I am. Someone who is basically a total potty mouth.
To be myself. I will be nice when / if necessary.
I was once told a story about former President Clinton. The story went something like this... if Mr. Clinton was at an event with 100 people, and 99 of those people loved him but one person hated him, Mr. Clinton would work to change the mind of that one person. I'm the exact opposite. People will either click with me almost immediately, or not at all. It is nearly impossible for me to change the mind of someone who dislikes me. The harder I try, the worse it gets. So, I will do my best to be nice, but I will still be myself. Let the chips fall where they may.
To make an effort. I will work towards positive change when / if necessary.
Make an effort for myself. I need to go to the gym. I need to read a book (or read something), and I need to write a novel in the month of November (I am participating in that nanowrimo.org thing). I think I can do all three. Now, I just need a topic for this novel, something to read, and to make an effort.
